I am most definitely a buyer, if i have excess of the items that i am trying to create now they might find there way onto etsy... but for the most part i am here to increase the amount of hand made in my life. To that end I usually buy from people that i "meet" in chat or see in forums. I want to know that I am buying from someone who shares my excitement about the project. I also want to know where the supplies are coming from. For me the whole point behind hand made is to move away from the corporate and consumerist culture and into a more sustainable and microeconomic existence. Therefore I do not want to purchase handmade items made from supplies acquired at big box stores.
I believe that handmade is a way of life, it is inherently both political and economic... There is no way for me to separate that political and economic agenda from my existence as an etsy buyer. To be honest and fair if you can't accept my politics don't hold your breath waiting for my money.
